Boosting Georgia Tech's Stellar Science Fiction Collection

Kathy Betty, a longtime Georgia Tech supporter, has given the Library many of the science fiction novels collected by her late husband, former EarthLink CEO Garry Betty (BSCE, 1979). The donation includes many first-edition novels and enlarges Georgia Tech's science fiction collection, which was already one of the nation's largest. The collection is a key resource for faculty and students in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication's highly regarded Science Fiction Studies program.

Ivan Allen College Faculty Named to New Georgia Tech Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council

Four Ivan Allen College faculty members will join the newly formed Georgia Tech Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council (GTDEIC). President Ángel Cabrera formed the council to identify issues of campus racial and gender disparity, bias, and inequity.

Georgia Tech and the Atlanta Global Studies Center (AGSC) are helping lead an initiative to create a metropolitan peace education initiative. The goal: create a peace studies ecosystem in Atlanta that spans schools and disciplines such as engineering, health sciences, and humanities and social sciences disciplines.

The symposium included a diverse set of speakers and participants and an audience that spanned 21 countries. “We’re in this together,” President Angel Cabrera underscored during the event’s opening. “The biggest challenges that we face as a species affect us all… the biggest issues are going to be global in nature”.

During her career, Lt. Col. Michelle Macander has served in many roles, including a Marine Officer Instructor, Operations Officer, Commanding Officer for the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, and now the first female Ground Combat Battalion Commander.

First Georgia Tech Students, ROTC Officers, Join U.S. Space Force

Their transfers are part of the Space Force’s effort to bring in all of the space operations officers, cybersecurity experts, engineers, and acquisitions officers the new service will need. Transfers are competitive, and not everyone is chosen. But cadets from Georgia Tech are in a great position, said Lt. Col. David Cumings, commander of the Air Force ROTC detachment at Georgia Tech.
