National Search Underway for Chair of the School Modern Languages

In announcing the chair search for the School of Modern Languages, Dean Jacqueline Royster expressed gratitude to David Shook, who has served as interim chair since January, 2014 and will continue in that role through the transition.

Jean Monnet Center Hosts French Ambassador Araud

Gérard Araud, Ambassador of France to the United States, spoke to an audience of 200 at Georgia Tech on October 28. The Ambassador highlighted the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) which will be held in Paris this year, the terrorist threat in Europe, and the Syrian refugee crisis. The event was co-sponsored by the Nunn School's Jean Monnet Center of Excellence, the Consulate General of France in Atlanta, and the Atlanta Council on International Relations.

Carnegie Corporation Awards $485,000 to Nunn School to Study Nuclear Instability

The Carnegie Corporation of New York announced October 28 that it has awarded a $485,000 grant to the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs to study how break-through technologies are increasing nuclear instability worldwide. The principal investigators on the project include Mike Salomone and Jenna Jordan, who are supported by the project originators, doctoral candidates Phil Baxter and Tarun Chaudhary.

Jennifer Clark Presents at EU Open Days 2015 Conference

Jennifer Clark, an associate professor in the School of Public Policy, spoke at the EU OPEN DAYS 2015 conference held in Brussels. Clark, along with fellow speakers Patrizio Bianchi (Emilia-Romagna, Italy) and Lisa De Propis (University of Birmingham, UK), discussed the phenomena of “Regional Manufacturing Renaissance.”

Magerko and Bowman Will Present at Upcoming TEDx Atlanta

Brian Magerko (LMC) and Kirk Bowman (Nunn School) are on tap as speakers for this month’s TEDx Peachtree conference on November 13. Brian Magerko (L) will address the combination of the arts and computing. Bowman (R) will discuss how strong local leadership and a high level performance mindset provide a fresh approach to failed traditional international charity models.

Allukian Wins Best Poster Award at Postdoc Research Symposium

Kristin Allukian, a Brittain Fellow in LMC won the Ivan Allen College Best Poster Award for "The Suffrage Postcard Project." The project presents illustrations and images of transatlantic fatherhood that circulated in early twentieth-century pro- and anti-suffrage postcards. It utilizes digital tools including Omeka, ImagePlot, and Iconclass to explore how feminist digital humanities practices engender new visual historical narratives of masculinity within the institution of parenthood. Allukian received a $1,500 travel award.

In Memorium: James White, Senior Research Scientist

The College remembers our colleague James White who passed away on October 21, 2015.  James had retired from Georgia Tech on September 15.  He served for several years in the Ivan Allen College as Director of Communications Studies in the Center for Advanced Communications Policy (CACP), Senior Research Scientist in the School of Public Policy, and Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Information Center for International Strategy, Technology, and Policy (CISTP).  He was co-director of the policy initiative of the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center for Wireless Technologies at the CACP.

A memorial service for Dr. White will be held on Saturday, November 14. More information about the memorial may be found in the obituary for Dr. White.
