Nersessian Named Regents' Professor
Nancy Nersessian, professor of cognitive science appointed jointly to the School of Public Policy in the Ivan Allen College and the College of Computing has been named a Regent's Professor by the Georgia Institute of Technology. A fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, she earned her undergraduate degree in physics and philosophy from Boston University and advanced degrees in philosophy from Case Western Reserve University. Her research focuses on human creativity in science, focusing on reasoning and representational procedures in interdisciplinary research laboratories, where she is particularly interested in the nature and role of the physical and computational models researchers construct to simulate biological phenomena in problem solving and in learning. Brown Interviewed on Georgia Weekly and Earth & Sky
Marilyn Brown, Professor, School of Public Policy, was interviewed on Georgia Weekly on Georgia Public Broadcasting. On the program, Brown shares her views and discussed her findings in her new book: Energy and American Society: 13 Myths. The segment, entitled Energy Policy - Is the U.S. on the right path in energy planning? Are sustainable fuels the way to go?, originally aired April 2 and was rebroadcast May 1.
In a podcast on Earth & Sky's Clear Voices, Brown states that over 40 percent of the U.S. carbon footprint comes from residential and commercial buildings after recently completing an assessment of the carbon emissions generated by buildings. Working with scientists at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, she's helped develop a more efficient and innovative way to light a room called hybrid solar lighting. |
